SETTING THE TABLE WITH THE SISTERS

We grew up in a family that has been entertaining since the beginning of time. In fact, we grew up in a family of famous entertainers such as movie star, Ramon Navarro. If you can believe it, our family used to throw massive parties at his home in Hollywood. In fact, our grandmother from Mexico City would host weekly Sunday dinners at our family house in LA. You’d see people playing the piano, others dancing in the living room, kids running around and the ladies in the kitchen.

We entertain without even realizing it sometimes. It’s in our blood. We’ve been raised to know how to slap together a homemade party. Whether it’s last minute or well-planned out we’re seasoned at it and it’s part of who we are. We’re used to grabbing items from around the house, picking flowers from the garden and throwing together a table setting for our guests! Spending time with our family and friends is so important to us, and that’s probably the Mexican and Irish in us. Both ethnicity’s are well known for hospitality.

This month we teamed up with EULA Magazine to set the table “sister-style”. Instead of your traditional Thanksgiving table setting we wanted to bring you a beautiful Fall brunch setting with techniques for sustainable decor that can be used all year round!

FOOD

Avoid purchasing packaged foods as much as possible. If you can, buy from the local farmers market or pick veggies from your garden. Ask your guests to bring their own Tupperware and send the leftovers home with your guests!

 Bamboo Tableware

When you can, avoid using plastic or paper tableware like plates, bowl and silverware. Instead use glass, ceramic or bamboo alternatives.

Shop some bamboo alternatives here.

Borrow Grandma’s China

If you know us, you know we love blending old with new!

When in doubt break out the china… your grandma’s china that is! You can also go to a local thrift/antique store and grab some antique glassware and tableware. This idea also adds elegance to your set up and makes for great conversation.

 Cloth Napkins

Cloth napkins are a great alternative to paper napkins and can make your table setting look more inviting. This is where you can have fun with pattern and color!

Shop some here.

Indigo dyed napkins can also be a fun activity for the kids.

Coasters

Use felt coasters or even tile and fabric samples!

If you need to borrow tile or fabric samples call us!

Centerpiece

Stack your coffee table books as a centerpiece on the table. This is also a good conversation starter and adds height to the table! Place your vase on top and your are done.

Reusable Straws

Instead of using plastic or paper straws grab some cute gold metal or glass straws to add a little pzazz to your table setting!

Shop some here.

Fabric Accents

You can get scraps of fabric anywhere, you may even have some laying around your home. Use this extra fabric as a bread bowl liner or table runner! Another fun way to play with pattern and color!

Fresh Cut Flowers

There is no need to spend money on flowers or garnishes. If you can, clip them from your yard or ask a neighbor to clip from their garden. If you need, head to the farmers market and purchase locally.
