Latest Creation : Street Level Handbag Showroom

Latest Creation : Street Level Handbag Showroom

February 23, 2016

When we were approached to design and create a more inviting space for the Street Level Handbag showroom located in downtown Los Angeles, excited and thrilled would be an understatement.  The already existing walls and concrete floors were a blank canvas that we became very anxious to get our hands on.  The inspiration quickly started flowing in.  The owner/founder of Street Level was more than a delight to work with and her enthusiastic personality, giggly laugh, and contagious smile made this project beyond fun!
After meeting with her and her team, we at 4 Corners decided to find our inspiration by creating a fictional character.  This character would be their “ideal” customer.  She would be the type of woman who would wear their amazing selection of handbags as an accessory to her already fabulous life.  This is where and how our inspiration was created for this space.
We would love to introduce you to Claire! She is a recent college graduate and known as a free spirit. She is now living on her own for the first time in her NY apartment.  She is a lover and collector of vintage finds.  She loves to travel the world and often finds herself in Paris, taking photos, and continuing her education of life!  A true butterfly in our eyes.

If you look closely you will see hints of travel, education, Paris, butterflies, and vintage finds.  All these elements mixed in with the beautiful handbags made for a very unique display.  The clients also needed multiple meeting places for their buyers.  Therefore, we created three different types of spaces for them to meet.  One being a casual lounge area for meetings, an informal bar top, and a more formal conference table.  This will allow their buyers to feel at home and comfortable when buying for their new retail collections.  We brought in a muralist to create some imagery on the walls, such as the handbag menu behind the bar and the freehand butterfly on the black wall which makes for a great Instagram photo!

We also custom made a unique butterfly mobile that hangs center in the showroom to draw the eye up and remind us to live a more free spirited life, like Claire.  Because the space was a large industrial warehouse, we also wanted to warm things up and create a feeling of life inside the brick walls and concrete floors.  This was the inspiration behind the faux living walls and hanging plants.  Hanging the backyard string lights also gave it a whimsical feel and really brightening things up.

Overall the space feels well lived, well-educated, and well-traveled.  Everything the client asked for and both Street Level and 4 Corners could not be happier.  We were honored to create such a space and beyond thrilled they chose us to do so.
Please head on over to our Instagram, @sistersof4corners, to participate in our Giveaway with the fabulous Street Level.  You can win one of their beautiful handbags!  Now hurry up and enter!

Featured Artist : Jai Vasicek of Ahoy Trader

February 12, 2016

I first met Jai a few years ago in Byron Bay, Australia for a mutual friend’s birthday bash. We spent a few days together celebrating our friend and over that time, I instantly fell for Jai’s amazing energy. Not only is he so sweet and refreshingly genuine, he’s so much fun to hang out with. The man knows how to have a good time and he’s a great conversationalist. I visited his shop, Ahoy Trader in Byron Bay, and wanted to buy everything. He’s an incredible artist and visionary and has fabulous style.
I am most attracted to his incredible tile installations and daydream about commissioning him to do a project for us one day. His carefree spirit really comes through in his art and I love the way he uses color and imagery to bring his pieces to life. I especially love the way he interprets the female spirit. He has such a beautiful vision of what a true goddess looks like.

From his site, Ahoy Trader— “Jai’s Colourful Crosses And Wall Tiles Have Become Highly Sought After, With An Eclectic And Expressive Character That Allows Them To Be Displayed In Groups Or Used As Stand Alone Decor Pieces.  Nowhere Is His Signature Style More Apparent Then In His Stunning Large Tiled Wall Murals, They Dominate Any Space And Can Be Custom Made To Suit The Client’s Personality And Decor. Geometric Patterns //

They add instant visual interest, which is great for a quick and easy change or WOW piece. When using geometric shapes, you don’t need to do much else since they speak for themselves. Options are endless. We love seeing these patterns in bathrooms and kitchens!

Neutrals //

The most relaxing combo out there! t’s hard to go wrong when working with neutrals, which makes them great for layering. We love to have large, key pieces in neutral colors and add color with accessories!! It also helps that Benjamin Moore chose Simply White as their 2016 color of the year.

Jungalow Style //

The most fun trend this year! It’s been up and coming but it’s here to stay in 2016. Think plants, plants, and more plants! Miss-matched pattern and colors, then top that with more plants! The beauty of this trend is that there are no rules!!

Rose Gold //

Brass came back, and last year copper came back into the spotlight and this year Rose gold will be taking center stage! A softer and more feminine brass, what’s not to love? Metallics are always hot and we are happy to see rose gold come in to play in 2016.

Pantone’s Rose Quartz + Serenity //

PANTONE 13-1520 & PANTONE 15-3919. On the topic of rose gold, or the color rose or as we like to call it, Blush, is making a huge appearance this year. And we love it. We’re bringing back femininity into interiors with colors like rose quartz and serenity. Mixed with neutrals these two colors are sure to keep you inspired and feeling fresh. Using pops of these colors in your home or wardrobe will keep you up to trend with this years colors.

Holiday Gift Guide

Holiday Gift Guide

December 13, 2015

Oh, the holidays! One of the few times a year where asking, or hoping, for gifts is totally acceptable. We rounded up a few of what we’re hoping is under the tree!
Susanna // 1. For our rocker chicks…I’m currently eyeing these bad gals! Obsessed and think every girl needs a shiny pair of ankle boots! 2. For our big spender, I stumbled across these jewelers on Instagram and have been stalking them daily! This ring is the best way to tell some one you love and appreciate them. 3. For the women on the go, like us Sisters, this tote will help keep your things organized! Now, if only it would keep my thoughts organized! 4.We all need power at times, right?? How adorable is this Iphone Charger! A great stocking stuffer or gift for your gal pals! 5. I just got myself a new laptop and you better believe this guy is on my list this year! Drooling!
Elaina // 6. I can’t always get what I want here in Bali. Sometimes it requires a plane ride or hitting up someone’s luggage space who is flying in. I’m running low on my signature scent and feeling anxious about it as wearing perfume is what I do everyday no matter what. This is my scent. Been moving through Fresh scents since I was in my early 20s. I seem to change every 5-7 years. I think this onemay last a bit longer. 7. I’m a huge fan of Jai Vasicek over at Ahoy Trader and his tiles make for great gifts that can fill that small little spot on the wall that needs that little something. 8. I’m a sucker for good candles. I have a sensitive sense of smell (say that ten times fast) and so when it’s a good one, it can set the mood for everything. Not only do I know the beautiful soul behind this magic but I’ve tried and tested the product and it is oh so good. I’ll have one of everything please. 9. This time of year I really start to miss home and the crisp cold air. I dream about being cold and missing my boots and sweaters. I’m obsessing over this little number soon to be on sale with my girls over at Sea and Wander. Kinda funny I dream about being cold so I can wear warm clothes to feel warmer as I sit here dripping in my own sweat from the tropical heat that is Bali right now… Doesn’t make sense! 10. I’ve always been a bit obsessed with coffee table books and I think they make for great gifts. I started following Humans of New York a while back on instagram and love all the amazing stories. A good coffee table book will interest your guests and make for some great conversation. This one is on my list for sure!
Happy shopping!! XOXO

Current Crush: St. Frank

Current Crush: St. Frank

September 28, 2015

Back in April, I (Susanna) attended the BD West convention in downtown San Diego. This is where all the commercial lines come under one roof to showcase their products that are ideal for the boutique design world. After hours of walking up and down rows of product such as flooring, furnishings and lighting it all began to look the same. Not only was I starving but I was tired and ready to go home.
Then I turned the corner and saw a small booth with the most beautifully framed old world textiles. If any of you know us sisters and our love for textiles and the ethnic vibe you often see in our designs, you know then that I swooned that afternoon and it wasn’t from starvation or the uncomfortable shoes.
It was at this moment when and where our obsession with St. Frank and the sweet founder, Christina Bryant began. Since that afternoon we have been following these gals and their journey in creating some of the most beautiful items we have seen. Christina, the founder, has not only turned her love of travel and beautiful objects into a career but she has allowed it to become a true lifestyle and way of living.
Christina and her team travel the world and collect as well as create a line of textiles and home decor that are unique and inspiring. It’s because of her dedicated approach in providing a quality product and her love in supporting artisans from all over the world who hand make her collections, that we will forever be keeping her and her company on our radar.
It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you our current crush, Christina Bryant of St. Frank.

What inspires you? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Because we create and curate products rooted in traditional crafts, for inspiration I educate myself about fabrics and other handwork with rich stories to offer (all from low and middle income countries). I do this mostly through reading, travel, & going to museums.  I’m also inspired by our collectors – learning what they love about our work and hearing their feedback.
In a few sentences how would you describe your style?
I love unusual combinations because I find the element of surprise engaging. I want my space to tell my story. That story has many facets, translating into a layered look. I take classic staples, such as English antiques (upholstered in unexpected fabrics), and combine those with modern pieces that are sleek and industrial. I add in heritage pieces, such as passed down silver, and arrange them against graphic accents collected from my travels. The result is a mix of genres that creates a cohesive visual environment.

What does good design mean to you?
Timeless beauty and a good amount of intrigue.  To me, good design should surprise and engage its viewer, proving a deeper interaction.

When and how did you first find your passion for the design/home decor/treasure hunting world?
My mom is my greatest influence in developing my passion for design and creating beautiful spaces. She has incredible style and creativity. She appreciates the details I often overlook. We have different aesthetics – she is very traditional English-antiques-meets-Southern-charm, where I mix modern and ethnic pieces with her hand-me-down antiques. But she encourages me to pave my own way and appreciates my approach. She has also traveled with me around the globe and kept her cool when I went even further off the beaten path out on my own: my travels being my other great influence.

What do you love most about your career/passion?
Many things! I love developing unique products that stand alone as beautiful objects and also offer deeper meaning to our collectors. I am excited that our work harnesses the power of business to create social change – both preserving traditional artisanal craft and supporting economic opportunity for artisans. Finally, I get excited to go to work because I love working with my team and our external partners. That’s what makes everything possible and the day-to-day fun.

Who is your dream client/customer?
I think it would be cool to outfit a luxury boutique hotel in one of the locations where we work – such as Senegal – with our pieces that are handmade there.

How do you typically start your day?
Coffee, avocado toast, and the news… I wish I could say meditation!

How do you typically end your day?
No matter how busy I am, I end my day with at least 8 hours of sleep – I swear by that as my secret sauce.

What do you love most about the city you live in?
I live in San Francisco, so I am seriously spoiled. I love the views, weather, the ability to enjoy stunning natural beauty within and around the city. I love that so many of my best friends live there, and there is great local food and wine to enjoy with them. I love the city’s culture of innovation and risk taking, and the spirit of social justice.

Where is your most favorite place to travel and why?
Havana, Cuba. It’s a magic step back in time.

What was the best piece of advice given to you when you were first getting started?
Have fun. Starting a company can be overwhelming and stressful. Almost everything I’ve had to do to start St. Frank, I’ve never done before. It’s easy to get distracted by fear and forget to enjoy the amazing experience that I’ve had and am having, building a company. It’s important to me that I not miss out on the joy and excitement of creating St. Frank.

What’s the best piece of advice would you give to someone starting off in design/mercantile industry?
The above!

What is your favorite go to product at the moment?
Our crowd pleaser product is our Baby Alpaca Throw. They are so soft and elegant. They are also versatile – the perfect throw blanket, wrap (upgrade from the pashmina!), or travel blanket. They make great gifts. The WOW item in our collection at the moment are our Juju Hats and Day of the Dead Skull – they are of the moment and eye catching if you want to snag one thing that will refresh your space.  Our newly re-launched luxe prints are the best buy – getting the stunning look that you love from St. Frank for less.

What is your astrological sign?
I’m a pieces. I’m not sure if I’m a true fish, but I think they are supposed to be creative.

What are you most proud of?
I work with smart, grounded, and thoughtful people. What I’m most proud of, at least for St. Frank, is the team and culture. I respect my team members and we share a vision for the company and culture that we’re building.

What projects are you currently working on?
We are coming out with LOADS of new product categories before the end of 2015… stay tuned! Sign up for our Collectors’ Circle for early access to sales and events.

What’s next for St. Frank? What’s your future looking like?
In addition to the above, we are preparing to launch a flagship store in San Francisco. I think that will be such an amazing opportunity to meet our collectors in person and allow them to experience the St. Frank lifestyle in person.

Current Crush: Heather Restrepo of Balanced Life Aloha

Current Crush: Heather Restrepo of Balanced Life Aloha

August 24, 2015

We stumbled across this beauty from her blog, Balanced Life Aloha while stalking Instagram (something we’re very good at  and we have been following her every since! This is your honest, no fuss, and true beauty kind of lifestyle blogger. While touching on topics like her travels, spirituality, and her natural approach to life through food and remedies we find that her down to earth attitude not only inspires us, but remind us sisters to live a “balanced life” and to honesty love what we do.
This hot mama (yes, she’s a mom!) is quickly making a name for herself by writing about beauty, food, health, spirituality, style and travel. All things we love and us gals need a healthy dose of in our lives. She’s great at opening up about her marriage, what it’s like being a mom and her recent honesty on the blog about how she is dealing with a miscarriage. It’s this honesty and beauty that keep us coming back and we are honored today to share with you, our current crush,Heather Restrepo!

What inspires you? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I feel the most inspiration just from possessing the freedom to be able to pursue my wildest dreams.  Of course we all have inspirational outlets that we can draw from when we need a little pick-me-up or a refresh, but I believe that such outlets (whether it be magazines, blogs, celebs, etc.) shouldn’t necessarily be copied, but rather used to produce our own interpreted creation (whether it be clothes, writing, music, or design). Whatever it is, all forms of outside inspiration should push us to become even more of ourselves! On a lighter note, in terms of design, I radiate towards alternative and worldly lifestyles – I love all things Marrakech, Grecian, and especially Indo-Pacific.

In a few sentences how would you describe your style?
My style is definitively very eclectic. In terms of clothes, some days I’ll channel my inner Bohemian, but then there are others where I’m all about the comfy & casual-chic pieces of my wardrobe (like oversized knit sweaters). My style seemingly evolves with time and experiences.

What does a good lifestyle mean to you?
A good lifestyle is one that allows you to wake up every morning excited for the day. It incorporates real foods to nourish our bodies and give us the energy that we need to pursue our dreams, but it also is about living with a balance that allows for indulgences, adventures, and passionate love.

When and how did you first find your passion for “balanced life aloha”?
It wasn’t until my body literally turned on itself (being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition) that I realized my true purpose. My condition had left me with no energy, and as a new mother I had to make a promise to myself that I would find a better way to deal with it. My daughter was my ultimate motivation, since I didn’t want her to grow up witnessing my lethargy from being sick. Long story short, I created this code to living a vibrant life, called it “balanced life aloha”, and since then I have actually started to reverse my condition and have been thriving while also helping others!

What do you love most about your career/passion?
I’ve been developing the more professional side of Balanced Life Aloha for over a year now, but as I just officially launched my website, I am loving having so many opportunities to branch out and keep evolving this platform I’ve created.   The most rewarding aspect though is getting feedback from followers/readers that they receive inspiration from what I am doing.

Currently what is your must have product, that you can’t live without?
Oh my gosh, a Konjac Facial Sponge for sure! I actually wrote an entire article about them on my website that just confesses my love.  It is an all-natural sponge derived from veggie fibers, is so efficient at exfoliating, yet super gentle on the skin.

How do you typically start your day?
I start my day with either a cold shower or splash of cold water on my face, to wake me up as well as fight inflammation. After brushing my teeth, I always drink a full glass of water as well to kick-start my metabolism and flush toxins from sleeping. That is, of course,  followed by snuggles from my sleepy toddler and then off to the kitchen where she and I make breakfast (she’s more of a taste-tester) with some type of relaxing music on in the background.

How do you typically end your day?
This varies by day, but my ideal way to end a day is in a detox bath with lavender essential oil to de-stress, and a good book to read while I soak.  That would then be followed by cuddling with my hubby, and watching Netflix together in bed before dosing off.

What do you love most about the city you live in?
As a family, we move a lot (like 7 times in the past 3 years) because of my husband’s career. This allows us to appreciate new found treasures in each city.  We haven’t been in our current city too long yet, so stay-tuned for that!

Where is your favorite place to travel and why?
This is probably impossible for me to answer.  However, anywhere with an ocean or body of water is music to my soul.

What was the best piece of advice given to you when you were first getting started?
Probably my husband saying to always stay true to myself, and telling me that there is no pressure on anything I am doing, so just have fun!

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever given someone?
Definitely to travel, and at least travel alone once as a young adult.  Experiencing alternative lifestyles really have a unique ability to transform a person and allow gratitude to grow within.

What is your astrological sign?
I am a true Cancer.  Feminine, loving, dedicated, and spiritual – yet sometimes a bit emotional!

What are you most proud of?
Leaving home at 17 years old to live basically half way across the world from anyone I knew, and accomplishing all the goals I set out to achieve, which includes where I am at now in life.

What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on filming YouTube videos for my exclusive “Heather BalancedLifeAloha” channel!

What’s next for you? What’s your future looking like?
I am just going to enjoy that I have launched BalancedLifeAloha.com, and whatever the future holds I am open to and excited about!

Good design is…
Vibrant, yet comforting and well balanced; a true expression without needing words.

How to Pull Off the Black and White Look

How to Pull Off the Black and White Look

August 06, 2015

We’re huge fans of the classic, chic vibe that black and white creates. It’s one of the true bonds between two colors, a love that never dies. Here are a few tips for pulling it off right.

1) This color combo works fabulously with all other colors and patterns. So, don’t be afraid to mix it up. Keep in mind that when you bring in the black and white, everything else will pop.

2) Go big and decide whether you want to throw it on the floor, the walls or the ceiling. A black and white floor, wall or ceiling is a great way to make a big statement. Our all time favorite kitchen we ever had was one with the classic black and white checkered floor. We’ll never forget that kitchen. In fact, we spent most of our time while living there in the kitchen, ha!

3) Decide on a pattern for the black and white. You can do checkered floors, an ornate ethnic pattern, walls with polka dots, ceilings with stripes and upholstery with all of the above. In other words, the options are endless and hard to get wrong.

4) Using black and white is a great way to marry the old with the new. If you have a lot of old or vintage items and you’re living in an architecturally modern space with lots of clean lines, then black and white becomes the glue that makes it all work and look amazing.

5) Don’t be afraid to layer a black and white pattern with ethnic and more colorful patterns. It always looks fresh and smart. On the contrary, sticking to a pure black and white look is never boring. Decide what suits you and just go for it!

Stripes: And Why They Will Always Work

Stripes: And Why They Will Always Work

February 25, 2015

No matter the size of the stripe, whether it’s traditional or unconventional, the stripe will always draw your eye. It’s the most powerful yet neutral and easy pattern to work with. A bold and strong stripe is best when used in smaller spaces or where folks won’t be lingering; like the foyer, hallway or powder room. When using them on furniture or with your accessories like pillows the fool-proof method is mixing them with a floral and a solid. It will never fail you!
Stripes are the most classic, never-ending trend out there! They have been around since the beginning of time and will never go out of style. When in doubt, use a stripe! It will be the biggest and boldest statement in your space. Trust us on this one! We pulled together our favorite uses of the stripe. Tell us what you think!
